Omar Etman

I’m a writer, editor, documentary radio producer, and artist.

I’m a founding editor of the audio magazine Signal Hill, an independent, listener-funded publication. We were named one of the best podcasts of 2025 by The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and the BBC.

I produce my own audio stories, including a recent feature on the history of Egyptian cotton that was showcased at the 2026 Tribeca Festival. My reporting has been featured in PBS NewsHour, The Dig, and Al-Jazeera.

I’m a car fanatic, too. I co-host, produce, and edit a podcast about the road and everything on it, called Road Dogs.

I am a recreational ballet dancer with Not Bad! Dance Company, under the direction of Julia K. Gleich. In summer 2026, we staged The Magic of Daily Life, a performance of classical and contemporary ballet at the Center for Performance Research.

I grew up in Egypt, New York, and Wyoming, in that order, and hold a B.S. in Journalism and History from NYU.

I currently live in Brooklyn. I’ve made all kinds of other work.
